Birthday Surprise

"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward." Psalm 27:3

Friday was my Birthday. I'm beyond remembering how old I am-to do so would require math and I'm just not motivated to do math over the holidays. If you really want to know how old I am you can do the math. I was born in 196#! hee, hee.

Usually for my Birthday we go out to dinner somewhere as a family. This year we are all sick and I asked for a raincheck as the food just wouldn't be as enjoyable if none of us could taste it.

Instead if a meal, I did receive a wonderful surprise. This is how it all came about:
Kate decided she wanted to surprise me with something special. She hatched a plan and then got her brothers in on it. I got up relatively early and went to Curves. When I came home, one of the workman in our basement (we are having a ceiling put in) informed me that Danny had asked him to warn him when I came home. 'That can't be good' I thought-completely forgetting in that moment that it was my birthday. So I came upstairs and a giggling Danny came rushing over to me. "Mom! You have to close your eyes and come with me." He grabbed my hand and dragged me into Rick's office. When I opened my eyes I saw Ty and a brown box. "You have to open it Mom." Sort of suspecting now what was going on I said "I'm afraid something's going to jump out at me. Will you open it for me after I get my camera?" Danny agreed. So he opened the box and Kate popped up smiling and excited that her plan had been a success! "What a precious gift! " I told them. Then they excitedly showed me all of the decorations they drew all over the box, including a colored bow on the top. As they went through their play by play of what they did to pull this off, it suddenly dawned on me that Kate had been waiting, inside that box for 15 minutes or so, while the boys decorated it! I thought she looked a little flushed and felt a little warm when she first came out. Fortunately they had thought to poke air holes in the box-I didn't ask if they had done those before or after they had taped the box shut on her! Perhaps I should change her name to Houdini.

I must say though, that my children are precious gifts! Much finer than any jewels, clothes, even a dinner out or anything else that could have been wrapped up in a box that day! Thank you Lord, for my dear children. And Thank you for their tender hearts that wanted to do something special for me on my Birthday!

A few people have asked about pictures from the ice storm. I'll just post this for now. I'll add more soon, along with a longer post.
